"Tattoos Tell A Story: Understanding Tattoos, Trauma, and Healing in the Human Trafficking Journey"
1. Introduction to the Tattoo Industry: We offer insights into the cultural and historical significance of tattoos, helping participants understand the nuances of tattoo culture, quality, and the differences between professional and non-professional tattooing environments.
2. Tattoos and Human Trafficking: We go into how traffickers use tattoos as tools for control, branding, and psychological manipulation. Our training helps participants recognize trafficking-related tattoos and understand their impact on survivors’ mental health and identity.
3. Trauma-Informed Care: We emphasize the importance of a trauma-informed approach when dealing with tattooed survivors of trafficking. This includes understanding the story behind each tattoo and providing care that respects and supports the survivor’s journey from victim to survivor.
4. Tattoo Removal and Cover-Up: We explore the processes involved in tattoo removal and cover-up, highlighting the safety concerns for both survivors and tattoo artists. Our training includes best practices for ensuring that these procedures are done in a way that is safe and supportive for all involved.
Frustrated by the misunderstandings surrounding tattoo removal and cover-ups in my area, I discovered that, within the space of human trafficking, tattoos play a significant role in controlling victims. As I delved deeper into this work, I realized how important it is to help survivors heal by allowing them to share their tattoo stories. Helping them transform these marks of control into symbols of resilience and freedom became a personal mission. Every tattoo tells a story, and by empowering survivors to reclaim and redefine that story, we can support their journey from victim to survivor. These talks are designed to bridge the gap between tattoo artists, survivors, and their advocates, creating a shared space for healing and transformation.

Tattoos, Human Trafficking, and Our Mission: How did we get here???
While trying to educate myself to better educate my children on the dangers of the internet and social media, I discovered that the deeper I delved, the scarier it became. I realized that some dangers were hidden in plain sight, particularly the ease of connecting with unknown people around the world. This led me to recognize the importance of educating our children about what I call "The 4th Influence."
Traditionally, our children's development is shaped by three primary influences: Home, Community, and School (education), however that may look for someone. These environments have a direct impact on their values, behaviors, and safety. However, the internet and social media introduce a powerful new influence that many of us who didn't grow up with this technology struggle to understand.
By exploring what can happen online, we realize how easy it is for someone to be hurt or manipulated in ways that can have lasting impacts. This includes the risks related to human trafficking, which can exploit the anonymity and reach of the internet to prey on vulnerable individuals.
Tattoos can be a significant aspect of this hidden world. In the context of human trafficking, tattoos are sometimes used to mark and control victims. Understanding the connections between tattoos and human trafficking is essential for providing trauma-informed care. Tattoos can tell a story; we educate those who don't understand them to see through an informed and compassionate lens.
We aim to raise awareness about these dangers, including the risks related to human trafficking and the role that tattoos can play in this context. We are committed to educating others on how to protect themselves and their loved ones from these hidden threats.

Tattoo Safety Education At The Show!
We provide informative flyers at tattoo conventions to help artists educate their clients on taking care of their bodies before, during, and after getting a tattoo or piercing. These flyers explain the importance of eating a balanced meal, communicating with the artist, and following aftercare instructions to ensure proper healing and prevent fainting.
Artists can keep these at their booths and studios to ensure their clients stay informed and safe. Pick up your copies at the show!
We offer CPR, First Aid, and Bloodborne Pathogens certification training at the tattoo convention for your convenience. As many states begin to regulate these requirements, having American Red Cross certifications, which are always accepted, is crucial. These in-person trainings ensure that you learn the proper skills effectively.
By attending our training sessions, you stay compliant with regulations and assure your clients of their safety. Make the most of the convention by getting certified right where you are!
We place post-it notes on bathroom mirrors and anywhere we see fit as reminders for clients. If you feel the need to remove your bandage, please return to your artist's booth and have them do it. This prevents the transmission of bloodborne pathogens, which can make you or someone else very ill.
